Belhus, near Aveley in Thurrock, is the site of an historic park landscaped by Capability Brown, now bisected by the M25 motorway. Belhus Woods country park occupies the western end, and also has ancient woods and lakes on former gravel extraction sites, while part of the eastern section is open access woodland and grassland. Recently the Woodland Trust has acquired additional land to the south of Belhus Woods country park to create a new parkland landscape.
Access from Romford Road north of Aveley. From Upminster follow Corbets Tey Road (B1421) south, turn right on to Harwood Hall Lane at the Huntsman & Hounds PH, then first left on to Aveley Road which runs straight on into Romford Road.
Half-hourly service from Upminster station to Grays runs along Romford Road.
