The western part of Rainham Marshes has been smartened up by Havering Council and declared a Local Nature Reserve. Scrapes have been created and the Rainham-to-Purfleet path runs all the way through from north to south, with seats at regular intervals. It has good birdlife and an unusually high density of water voles. The vegetation has coarsened in recent years but is improving as grazing is resumed.

Access from Rainham-to-Purfleet path, which can be reached directly from Rainham Station via a raised walkway. SatNav: RM13 9YH.

Rainham station is on Fenchurch St–Southend line. Several bus services run to Rainham village, c.100m from the station.

Accessible at all times.

Summer; migration periods for unusual birds

Fully accessible surfaced paths throughout.
